Our principal, Colleen Winkler, earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston and her Master’s degree from the University of New Orleans. She is certified in Educational Leadership, and has received an Educational Leadership Endorsement through the Louisiana Department of Education’s LELI program. She has 26 years of experience in the classroom teaching seventh through twelfth grades in a variety of subjects including: English Language Arts, Advanced Placement Literature, Gifted courses, International Baccelaureate courses, Virtual school, and Independent Projects. Along with National Board Certification, Colleen has many other accolades including: Jefferson Parish High School Teacher of the Year, Riverdale High School Teacher of the Year, St. Charles Parish High School Teacher of the Year, Hahnville High School Teacher of the Year, and Distinguished Educator for the Louisiana Department of Education. She also received the Petroleum Institute Teaching Award and the Cox Shining Stars in Education Award. She was a featured teacher on Cisco’s National Website. Colleen and her husband now have two beautiful grandchildren. They enjoy spending weekends with their family.

Erik Kelt- Assistant Principal
Erik Kelt graduated Cum Laude from Springfield College, earning Bachelor of Science degrees in business management and sports management. Realizing that education was his true passion, he went on to receive his Master’s degree in childhood education from Dowling College where he graduated with high honors. Erik came to New Orleans in the summer of 2008 to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and he never left. He has served students and families as a teacher, academic dean, and assistant principal. He graduated from multiple leadership programs including Leading Educators, Emerging Leaders, New Leaders, and is currently working toward a Doctorate degree in organizational leadership from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He is a certified educational leader and holds a teacher leader endorsement from the Louisiana Department of Education. He enjoys kayaking, fishing, sports, and playing with his two boys. Currently in his fourth year at Chateau, Erik loves to celebrate our students when they show R.E.A.L. Community Values.

Stephanie Geise – Dean
Stephanie Geise graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. While attending the University of New Orleans, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Epsilon honor fraternity and was selected to serve as an Ambassador for UNO. Stephanie went on to receive her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. She also obtained an English as a Second Language certification from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. Stephanie is certified in Educational Leadership, Elementary Education, and English as a Second Language. She has worked as a teacher in Jefferson Parish for the past 7 years. Stephanie and her husband live in New Orleans with their three sons Eddie, Andrew, and Ethan. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. Stephanie is excited to join the Chateau Estates family!

Mrs. Albano’s Blog
Mrs. Albano received her undergraduate degree and certification in English and Social Studies from the University of New Orleans. She has been an educator in Jefferson Parish for many years, teaching Reading, English, and Social Studies to students in grades 3-8. Mrs. Albano believes in the words of Ignacio Estrada, “If a child cannot learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” Born to a military family in the DC area, Mrs. Albano moved to Louisiana at age 3. She grew up on the West Bank and now lives with her husband and three daughters in Metairie. Their family is completed by two dogs, five cats, and a tank of tropical fish. Mrs. Albano is excited to be a part of the progress and growth of the Chateau Estates school family.

Dr. Hall-Baker’s Blog
Dr. Renee Hall-Baker is a three-time graduate of the University of New Orleans where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (English; 1999), a Master of Education (Language Arts; 2002), and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration (2006). Renee began teaching in Jefferson Parish in 1999; she spent 11 years working with students in grades 6-12 and taught Reading, English, Language Arts, and Journalism. Renee has also worked as a Positive Behavior Support Facilitator as well as a Professional Development Resource Teacher. Dr. Hall-Baker has been an advisor for the National Technical Honors Society and a yearbook facilitator/editor. In addition to teaching, Renee is a published poet, freelance writer, educational consultant, doctoral mentor and NETA Certified Personal Trainer. Her passion for education and fitness is infectious! Personally, Renee is the proud mother of four children and one grandchild. She enjoys reading, teaching group exercise classes, traveling and spending time at home (movie nights) with family.

Mrs. Rousselle’s Blog
Raegan Rousselle graduated from Louisiana State University. She has a Bachelors degree is in Elementary Education 1st– 8th grade all subject areas and has been teaching for 12 years. She also has been a Special Instructor with Early Steps working with children with disabilities. Raegan and her family began a Non-Profit Organization 6 years ago, named after her daughter, Kendyl’s Krusade. Kendyl’s Krusade has helped many families and their children with disabilities with medical expenses. During her free time she enjoys time with her family and says that there is never a dull moment at home. She has 5 children: 4 girls and 1 boy from ages 5 to 17 years old. She enjoys family vacations to the beach and visiting with family in Houston. Her most favorite time of the year is football season! She is a huge LSU & Saints fan and never misses a game. Raegan believes that, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” She is looking forward to a great year teaching 7th grade at Chateau Estate Elementary.

Ms. Zheng’s Blog
Ms.Zheng was born in China, and later moved to Belize at the age of eleven. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, and her master’s degree in Statistics from the University of New Orleans. Besides English, she is fluent in Cantonese and in Mandarin. She is enthusiastic and looking forward to having a wonderful experience at Chateau Estates School. She will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Mathematics this year. In her younger years,mathematics was challenging for her. However, she has always been encouraged and strengthened by her teachers and classmates. She hopes all students would be able to excel and become better learners in mathematics, in other subjects as well as in life, as it is rightly said that “It is not enough to have a good mind. Ms. Braun’s Blog
Brooke Braun was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana and graduated from University of Central Arkansas where she earned Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Ms. Braun was awarded a scholarship by agreeing to play golf on the collegiate level for four consecutive years. Ms. Braun wanted to give back to the community by helping young kids better their own golf skills while she pursued a professional level career, but realized that wasn’t what she wanted to do. She then decided to obtain her teaching certificate to pursue her life-long passion to help young kids work hard, so they can deliver for themselves and succeed. She wants to help make a difference in a student’s life. In her free time, she loves to be outdoors with her dog (Gizmo Liam) and spend time with her family. Ms. Braun currently is the head golf coach at a high school, and is the 6th grade math and science teacher at Chateau Estates. She learns from the past, focuses on the present, and looks forward to the future!

Ms. Kosteck’s Blog
Virginia Kosteck graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and English. Ms. Kosteck was frequently featured on the Dean’s List at Spring Hill, and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. The world of education appealed to Ms. Kosteck because she believes teachers can make an enormous impact on the lives of their students. With compassion, enthusiasm, and dedication, Ms. Kosteck hopes to prepare students for success both in and outside of the classroom, motivating each individual to create their own purpose in life. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Kosteck’s other passion is traveling, and she has lived as far as Bologna, Italy. She recently moved to the New Orleans area, and is excited to get to know the city. Ms. Kosteck is looking forward to beginning her career at Chateau Estates School!

Lucy Lebron Santiago was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Florida when she was just a year old. She grew up traveling back and forth from the mainland to her island home and learned to speak Spanish so that she could communicate with all of her family members. Ms. Lebron attended the University of Central Florida and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology. During her senior year of college she began substitute teaching and instantly realized that teaching was her passion. The following year she got to teach 8th grade with her mom as her teammate. She moved to New Orleans in 2014 to participate in the Teach NOLA program and obtain her teaching license. She has been teaching on the Westbank for the past three years and is very excited to now be at Chateau Estates teaching 5th grade Math. When she isn’t at work, or working at home, Ms. Lebron enjoys walking and playing with her two dogs, Pito and Spunky.

Kimberly Rideout was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana and attended Jefferson Parish Public Schools from kindergarten until her graduation from Riverdale High. She then went on to Southeastern Louisiana University. There she graduated high honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle School Education 4-8 with a focus on English Language Arts and social studies. Mrs. Rideout has spent the last five years teaching for Jefferson Parish and is excited about the productive first year at Chateau she will have. Mrs. Rideout is also a huge Saints’ fan and cannot wait for football season to start. If she is not at school you can find Mrs. Rideout reading a book, watching Star Wars with her husband, or playing with her long-haired dachshunds, Abby and Vader, at home.

Maria Ramirez was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She later went on to earn a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from the American College of Education. This will be Maria’s 10th year teaching and first year at Chateau. She began her teaching career in St. Bernard Parish where she taught self-contained 4th grade. For the last 5 years she lived in Texas and taught self-contained 5th grade at an International Baccalaureate school and then most recently departmentalized 5th grade science courses. During that time she also completed her certification as an English as a Second Language teacher. She has been recognized as a Key Teacher and served as grade-level chairperson for Science Committees, PBIS Teams, and Instructional Leadership Teams. Ever since she was young, Maria’s life-long dream was to become a teacher. This passion for teaching and learning helps her make each student feel loved and know they are an important part of her classroom. She strives to challenge her students and help them become lifelong learners who have a growth mindset. Outside of school, Maria loves being with her family. She and her husband have two children and love to go on adventures to new places. She also loves photography and playing the piano. Maria is excited to be back home and be part of Chateau’s 5th grade team!

Annie Waguespack graduated from Louisiana State University and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a concentration in secondary education. She received her certification in English for grades 6-12, but she is currently working on an add-on certification in middle school grades 4-8. She is a 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher this year. She previously taught 9th and 11th grade English I and English III courses. She is passionate about LSU sports and attends all of the LSU football games in the fall. She was the varsity soccer coach at her previous school and enjoyed the ability to get to know her students outside of the classroom as their coach. She thoroughly enjoys reading books and watching movies in her spare time. Although Annie was born in Louisiana, she enjoys traveling whenever possible. Her favorite place that she has visited is Innsbruck, Austria, and she looks forward to returning in the future. She looks forward to the upcoming school year with her new Chateau family and is eager to see what this new year holds!

Stephanie Durant was born in Louisiana, and has attended both Southern University and Xavier University. She taught at Audubon Elementary School for two years, and has been teaching at Chateau Estates Elementary for over ten years. Prior to teaching, Stephanie lived in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where she studied classical piano at the international music school, Engelbert Humperdinck Musikschule. While living in Germany, she experienced two history-making events: the breaking down of the Berlin wall and the explosion of Chernobyl in the Ukraine. She received a degree in General Studies at the University of Maryland European Division. Stephanie loves to travel, and has visited 3 continents, 11 countries and 21 states within the United States. Her goal is to travel to all seven continents. She also enjoys music, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Stephanie has served as Department Chair, Sally Ride Coordinator, and a mentor teacher. Stephanie is currently part of the New Leaders Program and has her Black Belt in Common Core. In addition, she has been named Chateau Elementary’s 2013 Teacher of the Year!

Ms. Gardner is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University where she received her B.S. in Middle School Education (grades 4-8) Mathematics and English Language Arts. Previously, she taught 5th grade Mathematics at Chateau Estates School. She has served as the Mathematics Teacher Leader for the school for the past four years. She has also been a Teacher Advisor for the Jefferson Parish School System. She was honored as Teacher of the Year for the 2015-2016 school year.

Shyrlene Oubre is a veteran Jefferson Parish educator, having taught in the parish for 34 years and graduated from Riverdale High School. She received her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Sociology from Louisiana State University and her Master of Education degree from Tulane University. Most of her career has been spent teaching kindergarten and third grade. Shyrlene is presently teaching fourth grade, enjoying working with older students and using new instructional strategies and technology tools in her classroom. When not teaching, she enjoys quality time with her husband, three daughters, and many friends. Besides traveling in the United States and abroad, Shyrlene also loves exploring the New Orleans surrounding area and learning what it has to offer residents and tourists. Mrs. Guidry was born and raised in Kenner, Louisiana. She graduated with honors from the University of New Orleans in December of 2009, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Since starting teaching in January 2010, Mrs. Guidry has taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 4th and 5th grades, as well as administering reading interventions to scholars in 1st-5th grades. In her spare time, Mrs. Guidry enjoys spending time with her husband, stepson, and daughter, as well as the rest of her extended family. Rachelle Louviere graduated Cum Laude from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in accounting in December 2010. However, despite her interest in business, Rachelle has always found joy in working with children and has years of job experience in a classroom setting. After working as an auditor for an accounting firm, she decided to fulfill her life-long dream of teaching. She went to the University of New Orleans to pursue her Master’s degree in early childhood education and graduated in May 2015. During her free time, Rachelle enjoys performing in and watching musical theater, travelling, painting, yoga, and spending time with her family, and friends. For Rachelle, learning has always been the gateway to an adventure, one that she is thrilled to take her students on. She believes that all children should have access to an education that is innovative, engaging, and inspiring. My name is Keelin Rooney and this is my second year teaching at Chateau. I am so excited to see what adventures teaching the #thebest-brightest-greatest takes me on this year! I am a graduate of Spring Hill College… go badgers! After receiving a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Spring Hill I decided it would be too hard to leave the south. I headed west for New Orleans and could not have made a better decision. I am originally from the suburbs of Chicago and love to travel there to see family and friends whenever I can. In my free time I like to go on runs through all of New Orleans beautiful parks, travel, read, explore New Orleans, and spend time with my family and friends. I hope to create a community of life-long learners. I know each and every one of my students has a large capacity for success and together we are going to achieve it. Marissa Cover loves teaching at Chateau Estates! She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Anthropology from Tulane University. However, the call to teaching was too strong and she switched career paths. Mrs. Cover attended the University of New Orleans where she obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching and her teaching certification in Early Childhood Education. While at UNO, she was awarded an ETS Recognition of Excellence for her performance on the Praxis I examination. She is a current member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. For fun, Mrs. Cover enjoys cooking, reading, creating art, and running. Mrs. Cover truly values the gift of education and is committed to her students’ growth. She believes that instruction should be relevant, engaging, and rigorous. She looks forward to providing an environment where students can construct their own knowledge through exploration and discovery, inherently instilling in them a life-long love of learning.

Amber Crews graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education Grades 1-5 and a certification in ESL. She student taught at Chateau in 4th grade science and social studies. Amber also attended Chateau from Kindergarten to 5th grade. She is very excited to be teaching at the school that she once attended and loved so much. Amber has two dogs, Rocky and Paris, and enjoys spending her free time hanging out with family and friends. Mrs. Ricciardi graduated with honors from The University of New Orleans. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education 1-5 and is also certified in Special Education 1-12. She was a member of Kappa Delta Epsilon, Kappa Delta Pi, and Omicron Delta Kappa. She comes from a family of educators and has always felt that teaching is “in her blood!” Mrs. Ricciardi is excited to be teaching 1st grade for her second year at Chateau. Samantha Rideout graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education 1-5. She is going into her sixth year of teaching and has taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade in that time. She is returning to teach 1st grade at Chateau Elementary after living in Colorado Springs the past four years. Samantha loves teaching elementary school because she can instill the love of learning at an early age. It’s amazing when they learn a new skill and their confidence grows right before your eyes. Samantha loves spending time with her husband and almost 2-year-old little girl. She is looking forward to being back in Louisiana where it’s always warm and teaching 1st grade again.

Katie Wooley is a 2010 honor graduate of The University of Louisiana at Monroe, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. She has been at Chateau Estates since January of 2011.Last year she had the pleasure of being both a mentor teacher for several teachers as well as a supervising teacher for a student teacher. She has been teaching first grade for six years and loves teaching children to become lifelong readers and writers. Katie is originally from Rayville, Louisiana. Although she loves going back home to visit her family, she enjoys exploring the city and the surrounding areas. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two young daughters. Katelyn Blanke graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She graduated with the honor of Summa Cum Laude and received the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Faculty Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Education Major and the Academic Excellence Award. Katelyn completed her student teaching at Chateau Estates Elementary in a Kindergarten classroom and fell in love with that grade level. She has been teaching Kindergarten for the past three years and loves every minute of it. Katelyn enjoys watching her students learn and grow as they discover new things throughout the school year. Sandra Womac graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree from the College of Education. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Social Sorority, where she held several offices such as vice president of her pledge class, philanthropy chairman, and social chairman. Sandra has been teaching for 31 years, 26 of which were at Chateau Estates School. Ms. Womac’s son is currently enrolled at Loyola Law School. In her free time, Sandra loves attending Saints and LSU football games with her son, Jordan. Her hobbies include cooking, swimming, and gardening.

Amy Buras Tredanari graduated Cum Laude from the University of New Orleans in 2010, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been an educator for Jefferson Parish for six years, primarily teaching Pre-Kindergarten students. As a product of the Jefferson Parish School System, she loves working for the very community that she attributes her success to. Amy is Chateau’s 504 Coordinator, and is a member of the PBIS team. Ms. Blaze Allen was born right here in New Orleans but spent her childhood in Newark, NJ; in 2000 she relocated back to New Orleans with family. She is a graduate of Southern University A&M College where she received her Bachelors of Science in Communication. She continued her education at the University of Phoenix where she received her Master’s in Business Administration. Ms. Allen has worked in education for 3 years in the areas of Autism, Inclusion, and Behavioral Intervention. Outside of school Ms. Allen works alongside her sister-in-law with her non-profit organization called “Serving Our Families Together” (SOFTnola.org) which operates in the Algiers Community of New Orleans. Gil D’Aquin – Art
Gil D’Aquin graduated from Our Lady of Holy Cross College with a Bachelor’s in Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1996. He studied fine arts at the University of New Orleans, and The New Orleans Art Institute. He has taught in the Jefferson Parish School System from 1997 till the present. He is an Itinerant Art Teacher in the Talented in Visual Arts Program. With his students, he enjoys designing and sculpting puppets, masks, fully formed three dimensional sculptures of animal heads and book characters using papier mache’, working in water color and acrylic paints, and producing pencil renderings of true life objects. From 1992 to 1996 he worked as a substitute teacher in Jefferson Parish Schools in order to gain teaching experience. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, cabinet making, barn restoration, and furniture restoration using traditional hand tools. He has also worked as a printer, sign painter, and photographer.

Ashley Deeks was born in Mobile, Alabama and has lived in Metairie for most of her life. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from University of New Orleans in 2008. This is her first year teaching Special Education pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. Teaching has always been her lifelong dream. Ashley is the chairperson for the United Way campaign. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family and three dogs. She also loves the outdoors and art and crafts. Ashley is excited about the new school year and her awesome students.

Ghazala Naseer – Special Education

Ghazala Naseer came to United States in 2010 with more than 20 years of teaching experience plus three additional years as Principal of Middle and High schools. She has a Masters Degree in English Language and Art from Pakistan and also a Bachelors degree in Education. She has been teaching English, Social Studies, and Art to fifth through twelfth graders. She has attended dozens of workshops and seminars during her long teaching career. As principal, she arranged and conducted more than 50 training workshops for the new teachers. She was one of the board members for interviewing and recruiting the teaching staff. She has been named teacher of the year five times between 2000 and 2010. She has also been an ESL teacher for regular and Special Education students. She knows three languages; English, Urdu, and Punjabi. She can also read Arabic. Teaching and learning is in her blood as both her parents were highly educated and served in education. She feels lucky to come from this background and is happy to continue the tradition. In 2010 she came to United States permanently and now hoping to continue her journey. She feels very lucky to work in special education at Chateau Estates School. Her goal is to get a teaching certification in Special Education and serve the children for the rest of her life. She is married, and in her spare time she read books and watches movies. She is a very good cook and likes to feed everyone. She also loves to design dresses from her native country and embellishing them with embroidery.

Ms. Santamaria was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a graduate from Southeastern Louisiana University, where she received her Bachelors in Science for Elementary Education with a certification in Mild/Moderate Special Education. Ms. Santamaria did her student teaching at Chateau Estates Elementary where she gained first hand the experience needed to be an effective educator. In her spare time Ms. Santamaria enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dog Halley. She also enjoys reading, shopping, and cooking. Mrs. Colleen Panepinto is a graduate of the University of New Orleans. In 1994, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She is certified in regular as well as special education. Mrs. Panepinto has worked twenty eight years in education. She has worked with the students of Jefferson Parish for over twenty five years. In 2007, Colleen “graduated” from Jefferson Parish. She spent the next eight years focusing on her family and family cabinet business. Her son Dominic, 22 years old, works in their business. Her daughter Caroline entered LSU this year and is studying kinesiology. Mrs. Panepinto is enjoying her students and co-workers at Chateau Estates School. She strongly believes that her students will teach her just as much as she will teach them. In her free time, Colleen enjoys “Pizza Night” with her family, boating/fishing, hiking, and traveling. Vanessa Villalobos was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She earned her Bachelors degree from Tulane University. She has been working in the Jefferson Parish School System for two years. Vanessa has worked with children of all ages in diverse areas. “Working with children is my passion”. Vanessa finished her EMT certification course last semester. Angela Williams received a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans where she also earned her Bachelor of General Studies degree. Ms. Williams is a highly qualified educator who possesses over 15 years of experience in the field of education. As a teacher in New Orleans public and charter schools, Ms. Williams served as grade level chairperson for 3rd and 4th grades, 504 coordinator, mentor teacher to new teachers, and after school program coordinator. She holds Louisiana certification for grades 1-8. Prior to teaching elementary school, Ms. Williams taught preschool children for five years at the University of New Orleans Children’s Center. She also served as the center’s summer camp director for a year. Ms. Williams is a life-long learner who continues to grow professionally each year. She has successfully completed training in educational programs such as Achievement Network, Achieve 3000 blended learning program, and Evans Newton Incorporated Target Teach. Ms. Williams has also received professional development in Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) from Pearson Education, Inc., and instructional leadership training from Leading Educators, an organization that works to develop teacher-leaders in order to increase student achievement. Heather Williams was born and raised near Albany, New York. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from The State University of New York at Fredonia with a major in Childhood Inclusive Education. She earned her Master of Science degree from The State University of New York at Albany majoring in Special Education and Inclusion. Heather has worked as a special education teacher for 8 years. In her spare time, she loves to explore New Orleans and experience all of the great things the city has to offer. She enjoys visiting her family members that live in upstate New York and the greater Boston area. She spent her summer teaching children all about animals at the Audubon Zoo! Mary Aucoin Chatelain (Beth) was the first person in her family to graduate from college. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Applied Life Sciences from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette (ULL now), she moved to the New Orleans area where she was born and raised. Ms. Chatelain took the alternative approach to teaching and received her teaching certification through TeachLouisiana in preK through 3rd. She has added on certification in 1-5 and is currently working on a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction and ESL certification. Ms. Chatelain taught at Greenlawn Terrace for 7 years. While at Greenlawn, she taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and ESL to 2nd and 3rd graders. Ms. Chatelain worked for 5 summers as the Lead Teacher for the Literacy Advancement Program and 2 summers as a Summer Camp Coordinator. Ms. Chatelain has 2 daughters, Sydney and Camryn, who fill her life with dancing, sports, reading, theater, and concerts! She encourages everyone to never give up for “…failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently…” (Henry Ford). Anne-Lise McCarver is a proud graduate of Indiana University where she received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors. She then studied French literature in the graduate program at Duke University. She earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington, completing her studies with a 4.0 GPA. Among the awards Anne-Lise has earned over the years include the St. Bernard Parish New Teacher of the Year and Bunche Academy Teacher of the Year. Working in schools since 2004, she has taught English and social studies in grades 5-8 and been a Teacher Leader. Brittany Schiro graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in December of 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Brittany did her student teaching at Chateau and accepted a teaching position at the school in January,after graduation. In January of 2011, she enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana State University to complete her certification in English as a Second Language. In addition, Brittany is trained in Conscious Discipline, Kagan, and Fountas and Pinnell. Brittany has been a teacher and the lead teacher at the KAP, LAP, and LAMP summer programs that are held at Chateau. Since October of 2011, Brittany has been the Title I and Title III School Coordinator. She is also on the School Leadership Administration Team and the School Improvement Plan Committee. In her free time, Brittany loves traveling, visiting with her family and friends, and exploring new classroom ideas on Pinterest.

Kellen Murphy Fitzsimmons attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she was a proud member of Phi Mu Sorority. She graduated with honors from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, with a degree in Elementary Education. She was an assistant teacher at St. Michael’s Special School in New Orleans while working on her degree. Kellen taught 1st grade at Chateau Estates School for 5 ½ years and this is her third year teaching Health and Physical Education at Chateau Estates. Kellen is currently serving on the CATCH Team. She enjoys playing tennis and fishing.

Mrs. Kocic’s Blog
Mrs. Kocic graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science. In December of 2013, Mrs. Kocic earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of New Orleans. She has taught general education and special education for five years in Jefferson Parish Public School System. Mrs. Kocic is now certified to teach Physical Education and Health and is SO excited to join the P.E. department this year. This is her third year teaching at Chateau Estates. Mrs. Kocic has a deep passion for teaching students the importance of eating healthy and being physically active. She will coach Track and Soccer this year! Mrs. Kocic is also a former triathlete and still participates in local 5K, 10K, and half-marathon races. Her most recent half-marathon (13.1 miles) time was 2hrs 2mins! In her spare time, Mrs. Kocic enjoys spending time with her husband and taking their two children on adventures to the park, zoo, backyard and anywhere else natural learning can occur. Coach Anthony Hicks is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and a graduate of Hattiesburg High School in 2002. His postsecondary education began at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. After a year at ASU, Coach Hicks transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. As a student at USM, Coach Hicks pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In 2005, he graduated from Southern Miss with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration and Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi with Associate degree. After graduation, Coach Hicks spent six months in Udairi, Kuwait as a Recreation Specialist before enrolling into the Mississippi Path to Teachers Program. He spent a year at Kirkpatrick Elementary in Clarksdale, Mississippi as the PE teacher while earning his Mississippi Teachers License. After earning his teacher certification, Hicks furthered his education by earning his Master of Education in Physical Education at Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss. This will be Coach Anthony Hicks first year at Chateau Estates.

My name is Larry Lala. This is my first year teaching Physical Education at Chateau Estates School. I was born in New Orleans. My family moved to the Northshore when I was 10 years old. I graduated from Pearl River High School. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of New Orleans. I have been a teacher, coach, and administrator in Jefferson Parish Public Schools for over 30 years. My wife Dollie and I have been married nearly 30 years. She is also a Physical Education teacher and coach. I have 3 children. My son Tim is 26 years old and teaches and coaches in Ascension Parish. My daughter Ashley is married and lives in Florida. She is also a teacher and coach. My youngest daughter Nicole is 17 years old and is a senior at Haynes Academy. My favorite hobbies are golf and traveling, usually to the beach. I am excited to be at Chateau Estates School and look forward to teaching the wonderful students here.

Carl LaRosa was born in New Orleans but raised just north of Lake Ponchatrain in Slidell. Carl spent four years on the basketball at Slidell High, but decided not continue playing after high school. Carl enrolled and graduated in the Teacher Education Certification (TEC) program in the Kinesiology Department at Southeastern Louisiana University where his concentration was Health and Physical Education. Carl is also very close to completing his Adaptive Physical Education certification. Carl recently moved to New Orleans from Hammond and is making the short commute to Kenner every day. This is his second year teaching!

Scarlet Berckes – Social Worker
Our special education social worker, Scarlet O’Dell Berckes, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Loyola University and her Master’s degree from the Southern University at New Orleans. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a certified School Social Worker through the Louisiana Department of Education. She is a New Orleans native and has been practicing social work in the New Orleans area for over 19 years specializing in crisis and trauma. Ms. Berckes is here to help assist students, parents and staff identify factors that may be interfering with learning. She provides direct and indirect services to the special education population. She believes that the “overall goal of mental health services in the school bridges the school, home, and community which promotes academic success.” Scarlet has been married to her husband Tracy for 26 years and they have two beautiful daughters, ages 13 and 10. In her spare time Scarlet enjoys yoga and spending time with her friends and family.

Erica Gauthreaux graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 2003 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Business Administration. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, the Greek Leadership Honor Society – Order of Omega, and International honor society in the field of education – Kappa Delta Pi. She has been teaching in the Jefferson Parish Public School System since 2004. Erica attained her English as a Second Language certification from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2009, and her Library Science certificate from Northwestern State University in 2015. She has served on various committees including the PBIS team, the ESL department’s Leadership Development Cohort, and has earned her Bronze, Silver, and Gold Promethean certificates. Erica currently is serving as Chateau’s Technology Coordinator, Webmaster, Academic Behavior and Intervention Team Chair, Parent-Teacher Organization Liaison, and Educational Programs Coordinator. She is highly qualified to teach English Language Arts, Math, and Science. Erica lives in River Ridge with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs. Verlencia Millet – Speech Therapist
Verlencia Millet is a native of La Place, LA where she attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic School and St. Charles Catholic High School, both located in La Place, LA. Ms. Millet then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA in 2001. She obtained a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN in 2003. She is Louisiana-licensed and certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. During her fourteen years as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Ms. Millet has worked in medical (Children’s Hospital of New Orleans) and school settings (St. John Parish in Louisiana, Katy ISD/Alief ISD in Texas). She has also served as a member and vice-chairperson of the Louisiana Board of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (licensing and ethics board), appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal. This is Ms. Millet’s fifth year with the Jefferson Parish Public School System. She is excited to join the Chateau Estates team this year! In her spare time, Ms. Millet enjoys serving as the minister of music for her church, singing, playing the keyboard, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.

Lizzie Vitter – Social Worker
Born and raised in New Orleans, Lizzie Vitter graduated from Louisiana State University Baton Rouge in 2007 with a degree in English Literature. After working for a law firm in New York City for 3 years, she returned to LSU to earn her Masters degree in Social Work, completing her degree with a 4.0 and membership in the Alpha Delta Mu Honor Society. She has been working in the Jefferson Parish School System for two years. Prior to joining the team at Chateau she served as the Elementary School Social Worker at John Martyn Alternative School. Lizzie worked as a social worker in hospice care for 3 years before obtaining her dream job of working as a social worker in the Jefferson Parish School System. Lizzie lives in Uptown New Orleans with her husband, Nick; they met at Benjamin Franklin High School in Orleans Parish. In her free time, she loves to go for runs in Audubon Park with her husband, take Pure Barre classes, travel to other countries, and spend time with friends and family. Lizzie is so excited to be part of Chateau and looks forward to a fantastic school year!

Wendy Aguiluz- ESL
Wendy Aguiluz was born in Honduras and moved to the United States when she was fourteen years old. She overcame a lot of obstacles while living here. She is an alumnus from Bass Memorial Academy. During her high school years she was on the honor roll and belonged to many clubs. When she began college she studied physical therapy but then discovered her passion was working with kids, while volunteering for Junior Achievement! This led her here to follow her dreams to become a child physiologist. This is her first year as an ESL Para-professional at Chateau Estates Elementary. In her spare time she likes to surf the internet, do Zumba, shop, and take care of her two beautiful children! She also has a side business making girl and boy clothing. She has been married to the love her life for fourteen years now! She loves her students and her staff!

Kristen Brown – Special Education
Kristen Brown graduated from Southeastern LA University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. While attending SLU, Kristen was one of the first to volunteer with AmeriCorps Jumpstart program, in which she worked with children ages 3-5 on social and literacy skills. Since graduating, Kristen has worked in the field of social work, but has now decided to move into the field of education. While working as a para, Kristen will be pursuing her Masters in Education. Kristen has worked with children of all ages in diverse areas and at different capacities. Kristen says working with children is her passion and can not see herself doing anything else. Michelle Cutno – Special Education
Michelle Cutno was born in Louisiana and educated through the Jefferson Parish Public School System. She graduated in 1979 from Bonnabel High School. She then attended Southern University of New Orleans and Delgado Community College, obtaining several certifications in Early Childhood Education. Utilizing her certifications and talents, she helped open two daycare centers, Pittman and Quality Child Care, and served as their director for six years. In 1995, she began working for the Jefferson Parish School System, arriving at Chateau Estates Elementary in 2005. Along with working with children, Michelle loves spending time with her grandchildren.

Lanika Frank – Special Education
Mrs. Lanika Frank is a Louisiana native, she attended secondary school in both Orleans and St. John the Baptist Parish. She graduated in 1995 from East St. John High School in Reserve, La. Lanika then attended Cameron College in New Orleans, then South Central Louisiana Technical College in Reserve, La where she obtained an Associated Degree for Medical Assistant and Associated Degree in Process Technology and utilizing her Certifications and talents as a Substitute Teacher. In January 2017 Mrs. Frank began working with Jefferson Parish School System. She arrived at Chateau Estates School in August 2017 as a Generic Paraprofessional. Along with working with children she love’s spending time with her twin daughters who are 18 years old and her 10 year old daughter.

Rebecca Gates – Special Education
Mrs. Gates is a new Paraprofessional this year. She went to Delgado Community College and received an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been married for 17 years, and she has two sons which are 8 and 12 years old. Mrs. Gates loves being with her family, going to the beach and to Disney World. Alexandra Gutierrez – Special Education
Alexandra Gutierrez is new to Chateau Estates School this year and being a para-professional. She previously worked as a nanny for 5 years caring for a child with autism, along with his two younger siblings. Working with children is her passion. She comes from a family of educators. Her mother has worked as a special education teacher for 24 years, her father was a math and science teacher, and two of her sisters are pursuing a degree in education. While working as a Para she will be working towards her degree, to become a teacher or an ABA therapist. On her spare time she enjoys spending time with family. She is from a very large family and has 8 younger siblings. She is an identical triplet and her sisters are her best friends. She is looking forward to seeing what this year has in store.

Nousheen Irfan – Special Education
Ms. Irfan has always been passionate about teaching as she believes it’s a profession of utmost respect. She moved to New Orleans from Katy, Texas where she was a teacher in early education and enjoyed it thoroughly. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and education from Pakistan. Today, she is a proud mother of a daughter who is a lawyer and a son who is majoring in pre-med. She is bilingual and can speak and write both Urdu and English well. She feels lucky to belong to Chateau Estates School which values diversity and hard work. She loves to learn new things from her students as their young minds are filled with innovative ideas particularly technology in today’s time. As a teacher, she feels it’s her responsibility to provide students with the best understanding of not only class material but also other real life challenges they eventually have to face. Parvanah Karimifard – Special Education
Ms. Parvanah graduated from Melli University of Tehran with a bachelor degree in Geology. She also earned a degree in child care as well as Fitness and Nutrition. She has worked in Jefferson Parish Public Schools for 16 years. She moved to US in 1989 and speaks Farsi, Dari, Turkish, and English. She is passionate about spending time with friends and family and traveling. She has already visited Wien, Istanbul, Frankfurt, London, Rome, Mexico, and Iran. She enjoys gardening and bowling on a special needs bowling team. Mary loves visiting Ghana where her sister is the director of an orthopedic center that meets the needs of many children and adults. She is also enjoys being a Eucharistic Minister at a local church on Sunday evenings.

Jill Ripple – Special Education
Jill Ripple has been working as a para-educator for Chateau Estates School since March 2007. She started in pre-kindergarten special education and now works with our moderate children. Jill has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeastern University. Jill is trained in Conscious Discipline, Common Core, Kagan, Diversity and Bullying, and Suicide Prevention. She is the chair of the yearbook committee. In Jill’s spare time, she likes to spend time with her husband, Ryan, cuddle with her puppy, teach dancing, cheer on the Saints, and go to Disney World.

Danielle Tonguis – Special Education
Danielle is a para-educator who has been serving students at Chateau Estates Elementary School since September of 2010 and has been a Jefferson Parish Public School employee since November of 2008. She has an associate’s degree in Commercial Art. She has attended several workshops such as Conscious Discipline, Compass and Common Core, Bullying Prevention & Building Positive Relationships, to name a few. She has also attended training in CPR and Medicine. At Chateau Estates Elementary School, Danielle serves on the Yearbook Committee. She loves interacting with children and helping them learn new things. Being in a child’s learning environment is especially important to her. If given the opportunity, she would not change a thing about what she does every day for children!
